2004-06-01 - 6:32 p.m. (Yesterday's entry, culled from my LiveJournal...) Monday, May 31st, 2004 11:36 pm Whew! Where do I start? Went for a walk to the local Hallmark gift shop with my mom this morning... and for once we have a NICE and SUNNY Memorial Day! It seems like the past several years it's rained or just been grey and gloomy (Knock on wood: It's supposed to rain tomorrow.) Then, this afternoon, I went to watch the town's Memorial Day parade. I'd been *in* the parade a couple of times well in the past, when I used to be in the local Camp Fire Girls chapter, but I've never actually been one of the people on the sidelines watching, so this was a real treat. A group of antique cars driven by some local antique car collectors. A group of antique tractors. A World War II era half-track (from the VFW). Even the group of young actors who put together the haunted house on Livingston Street had a small float of sorts: a pick-up truck with hay-bales and a few spooks in the back. Funny things happened: the Cub Scouts ended up holding up the parade when a 4-year old kid's shoe got untied and the kid's dad stopped him to tie it, so the Knights of Columbus behind them ended up having to pause and wait... Then this evening, the three of us went to Lawrence to put flowers on my grandfather Mulhare's grave; he served in World War II, in Europe... and he was among the second wave of soldiers who landed at Normandy on D-Day, June 6. Then, my dad brought us to the house at the now-closed section of the farm he works for, in Reading: the house, the old farmhouse once upon a time, was recently being rented out as apartments, but that's going to be torn down when the old greenhouses go, since they sold the property to some developers... It's sad that this old house is going, since it's a nice house: Dad's planning to salvage a kitchen sink and some cabinets from it before it goes, since we could use a better sink in the kitchen and we REALLY need some cabinets! Finished typing/posted the next installment in one of my "A.I." fanfics, "Conversations with a Mecha Named Joe". I should get back to typing the next chapter of "Motion..." but I'm gunshy about it: gruesome content warning in effect!
